There are several things you want to consider, especially in this time of overall economic crisis: 1. Who is your ideal client? 2. What is your ideal product or service? 3. Who is your competition? 4. What are your startup costs? 5. What sort of timeframe do you need to consider in terms of making a profit (how many months before you begin to see profitability)? Before you take these things into consideration, think in terms of your personal profile: What kind of temperament do you have? Are you patient? Can you explain things clearly to customers or to staff or co-workers? Do you work better independently or with a team? Among the best startup businesses with low overhead are direct selling. Consider Mary Kay Cosmetics, Herbal Life, or Advocare. Each of these businesses have made people millionaires in less than five years. (I happen to know several of these people personally.) In the event of a lawsuit the insurance company would undertake your defense and pay the associated legal fees as well as paying for legal counsel. The insurance company has complete legal control in the litigation process, they choose whether to settle or contest the issue in a court of law. In the real world it is rare that an insurance company would actually go to court. In most cases they would seek a settlement.

This of course assumes that the incident is covered by your policy. A lawsuit may contain several complaints. The insurance company is obligated to provide a defense for you if any of the claims could be covered, but the company may not be obligated to pay the damages for certain types of claims. Liability policies, for instance, typically do not provide coverage for damages which you cause intentionally.

The better long term business option is the lawn service. The house never moves, and the customer doesn’t have to be home for you to perform the service (you can bill or collect later). Grass grows no matter what, especially as you approach and get into the summer. Community deed restrictions require that the homeowner keep their lot cut.
The startup cost to begin a lawn service is 1 lawnmower and trimmer. Continuing costs is fuel.
Costs for a car wash detailing service depends. Hose, cleaning supplies, sponges, rags, a buffer, wax.
If you can, start trying to do both. Which ever you like or the one that takes off, you continue. There are pros and cons to both.

The first thing you need to do is to be absolutely sure of what you want to do. Then you need to do research, take the nail salon, how many are there in your area, how are the competitive pricing, do you really believe it to be a long term business? Go to a bank/credit union and inquire about a small business loan. You need to get a business license, go see an accountant for advice about taxes etc. If you work out of your home then there will be requirements to be met, each State is different.
Good luck with what your choice, it can be exciting and nerve racking too.

I think it will be easier to get work from the lawn mowing business. But the cost to run that will be more expensive than the car detailing – which is also a good idea. Good luck
